Breastfeeding is the best source of nutrition for most infants. It can also reduce the risk for certain health conditions for both infants and mothers.
Learn more:
While breastfeeding is strongly encouraged by the American Academy of Pediatrics, many babies rely on infant formula for some or all of their nutritional needs. The current WIC infant formula contract is with Abbott, the maker of Similac formula. Check with your baby’s health care provider to determine which infant formula to choose. Some specialty formulas are covered by WIC.
The safe preparation and feeding of formulas is important for your baby’s health. Prepare infant formula according to instructions on the infant formula label. Don’t feed your baby homemade formula. It is dangerous for your baby. Learn more.
For information on infant formula shortages or recalls, visit the U.S. Food & Drug Administration webpage on infant formula.
